While those in the know cherish his 90’s house records on the Far East Recording imprint founded alongside Shinichiro Yokota, most people’s exposure to the work of Tokyo producer/composer Soichi Terada came via the Sony Playstation. Terada was a prolific video game scorer around the same era, an outlet that provided Terada an opportunity to explore more outre forms of dance music that he loved, namely jungle and drum and bass. This new EP Apes In The Net collects tracks created for 1999’s Ape Escape game for their first official release in America, and they indeed favour more rave-ready sounds than the moodier, more soulful tunes he was banging out under his own name. Apes In The Net features plenty of grace too though, just peep the seamless techno fusion of ‘Spectors Factory’ or the technicolour ‘Mount Amazing 2’ for proof of purpose.
