Multi-hyphenate artist Simon Fisher Turner returns to Mute Records for his latest LP of experimental electronic ptoductions entitled Instability of the Signal. Collaborative in nature, Instability is built from loops and scraps initially recorded by Salford Electronics that Turner then reshaped into the concrete structure from which his treated electronic improvisations roam. The poet Harold Pinter is also featured heavily here, with two of his verses floating around amidst the mutually soothing and sweltering noise. The end result is, as its title suggests, a deep dive into the very essence of abstraction and discord. It’s also among the finest releases yet from an artist with a deeply influential oeuvre across multiple disciplines.
